...Do ya want top eject (or angle eject) or side eject...basically, its the primary difference between the two. Both guns are comparable in quality and workmanship...although I believe the Winchester is the more costly of the two, and will hold its value (if that matters) a little better....

I'm partial to the Marlin myself. I have one of each and the Marlin just seems better, can't really explain why. The (optional) offset hammer is nice for mounting a scope if you want one.
Marlin 30/30 SS is the stainless steel version, I want one! Last one I saw was around $389 at Gander Mountain couple of years ago.
I know you can get different stocks for the Marlin, not sure about the Win.

Because CTfuzzy implied Ashcroft would take guns from you when he meant to say that the dems (particularly Schumer and his band of idiots) are the ones that want to take your guns.
My brother has the Marlin, nice gun. I like Winchester to though. I have never shot a Winchester 30-30 however, so all I can tell you is the Marlin seems to be a very accurate rifle. Try finding somebody that owns these guns and ask if you can fire them, or at least hold them and see which one feels the best. Good Luck...Jay

Whew! I sure am glad someone was around to straigten me out on that!
Thanks, chperry!
. . wondering where Ashcroft went - he's still got a whale of a titty-twister coming.
On your original question, a few things to consider:
A 30/30 has an effective range of about 150 yards before the ballistics go to ..... you know where. So, IMHO a scope is useless and actually counter-productive on this firearm. Marble has an excellent tang peep sight for this firearm, at around a $100 bucks, it better be!). I easily get a 3" group at 100 and am by no means, an expert rifleman.
The Marlin has a stronger receiver due to the full top plate and side-eject mechanism. Winchester does top eject, but can be fitted with a 45 degree ejector than will allow a scope, if you have to have one, and keep the brass out of your hat, and sight-line.
The 30/30 is an anachronism. I only hunt with mine in heavily populated areas because it will not travel far. However, I like my Marlin.... it is fun and inexpensive to shoot. If you are buying this for just having a short range deer rifle get a Marlin... If you are buying this because you are ate-up with the cowboy look and want something to be proud of, get the Winchester.
