im curious to see the official specs on this as well at the updated numbers on the 7.3 and the high output 6.7. i like my 6.2 but it had a 11 year run and was only updated once so it make sense.

If the 6.8 is just a smaller version of the 7.3 and that what it sounds like the 6.8 could just be added to the existing 7.3 forum. Time will tell.

When the 6.2 originally came out it was campaigned as a 7.0L. In fact, it was rumored that Ford had Roush racing put one in a mustang, and take it drag racing. Imagine if Ford had stuck with the 6.2L architecture and made a 7.0L BOSS!

I’m having trouble envisioning a 7.0L SOHC motor in the Boss. would it even fit?

While not a BOSS platform engine, Ford already produced a 427CI 7.0L SOHC engine back in the 60s. Its a rare find but it was making 600hp revving to 7000rpm back in the 60s. Surprisingly it had a wicked torque curve and peaked under 4,000rpm. Torque was somewhere around 530lb-ft in stock fashion.

It was a race engine produced to beat its pushrod rivals. It was never allowed to compete because of course it would have won across the board and the other manufacturers threw a hissy fit about it.

The block and heads for the 7.0 are the same as the 6.2L. the bore and stroke are different.

If the 6.8 is half as reliable as the 6.2 it will be a winner.

That was a Ford engine that got a raw deal by its maker. Well ahead of its time.

the motortrend article is a little off when talking about the 6.2. they ignore the changes for 2017 when torque was increased to 430.

I wish my 2016 had 430 ft/lb of torque.

could get a tune for it. the trans tuning alone is worth it for many people

Different camshafts with the 2017+ 6.2L. 25lb-ft of torque alone isnt anything to fuss about, but the camshaft update changed the torque curve considerably and there is a noticeable drivability difference between the two versions of 6.2L.
