Are there any recommended OBD1 diagnostic tools that will read and display live data? I have the Innova scanner tool for reading codes but I'm interested in monitoring data being sent/received from the ECU. I tried searching other posts but didn't find anything definitive for OBD1. Thanks for any input.

Wait, you want to see signals TO the PCM? Not something you are gonna get, hoss. The OBD1 interface that your tool shows you data is what the computer reports it sees, but tyou would have to have a LOT Of taps in the wiring to the PCM to get all that.... and it would be analog stuff...
Live data being received from the computer is what I'm looking for and being able to see responses in real time as adjustments are being made. Maybe I didn't phrase it correctly initially. That Bosch reader looks like it might do the trick

the innova does not? Or do you mean the 30$ one from the auto store? If so I gotcha. Just be aware its a little lackluster what is supported and the refresh rate
You need ForDiag from Czech.
You also need to have Data Communication Link(DCL) on your EEC-IV.
Easy to check, you need pin #1 and pin #3 with wires going to the PCM.
Even then that may not be enough.
DCL must be enabled and DCL must exist on chip.

Looks like the Actron is really old, those screen shots are from 2011.
There are about 4 different ways to accomplish data logging, and depends on your end goals.
I'm going to follow this thread, since I'm interested in knowing more about this for later on. I have the Innova 3145 code reader, but it might be useful to be able to view live data esp when doing an engine swap later or converting a classic car to fox body EFI which I might do.

If the actron model is still available(better if its cheaper) then I dont think it really is a big deal?
The truck isnt getting any newer lol, so interfacing shouldnt be an issue unless the refresh rate somehow couldnt keep up with the stream from the pcm. Lol.

Connection to the computer, USB driver support and software would more than likely be outdated as well.
Quote from Actron:
"Software is compatible with Windows XP 32 bit only, Vista, and 7 (32 and 64-bit)."
Good luck with that.

Well I would have no trouble as I own a 2004 thinkpad with xp 32 bit on it, but not many millenials would have such blistering modern technology, I see what you mean, didnt have to be so hostile, but im glad you were able to communicate that so <3
I thought you meant the tool itself was inferior at something but that is the what you meant, something that I was not aware of when I asked.
