Transfer Case Chain Rattle

I have a 88 350 460 5 sp. When I have the hubs locked, transfer case in 2h and get above about 25 mph I can hear a chain. I assume it is the transfer case. Is this normal or am I getting close to a rebuild? The truck has 150k miles. Which transfercases are in these trucks?

I don't know off the top of my head but there should be a tag on the case that will tell you. I know mine has one.

maybe you should unlock the hubs when running in 2wd

i bet the noise goes away

It does go away. I thought that was understood. What I am wondering is what does this tell ya? Has the chain gotten stretched or what? I have never know of a transfer case doing this. I want to be able to run down the road with the hubs locked in 2h if I am going from one field to the next but I don't want to do any damage.
