Is it possible to run a softer shock while still maintaining decent towing ability?
As it is now, I could run over a dime and tell you if it was heads or tails...the shocks are THAT stiff. Our town is renowned for crappy streets, so even a leisurely drive is a real filling-rattler.
Can I get something a little more plush without sacrificing my towing capacity?
I'd say it's not necessarily shocks that are giving you grief though they may help...
But you've got a Super Duty, they're built a bit like a lumber wagon to begin with, leaf springs in the rear and stiff coils in the front. Heavy duty shocks to help control body movement when loaded. Heavy-ply tires to carry the loads. They're not meant to ride soft unless you've got a couple hundred pounds minimum in them.
There are a few things you can do. Softer tire compounds. Run less air pressure in your tires without under-inflating them. Change out the shocks for somewhat softer ones. As suggested switch to airbags in place of shocks. But beyond that...yeah, it's a lumber wagon. It's built to ride rough.
i run 45 in all 4 tires unloaded, and my truck rides nicer than my inlaws ranger. perfect flat footprint on my tires, better grip in snow , no tire wear issues. i air up to tow
