Am I just not looking in the right places but nobody here in town has the front shocks for the 4wd version of the 84 6.9l. I am having issues and my suspension is starting to feel really....really...well...i feel darn near every bump.
I feel just about every bump too - thats probably a good thing. You are supposed to feel every bump empty so when you're towing 10K or have 3K in the back, the suspension is strong enough to handle the load.
well,i was looking for a better one lol.
to test them accurately, use a pry bar under the tire and lift up and let down.you could see that one was bad using his weight, but thats because it was let go way to long.bad ball joints will bang on the bumps and could be your trouble.of course yeah, shocks are usually the first things to test when experiencing a harsh ride.
its very dangerous to let ball joints go.these are checked with state safety inspections every year here in Maine.
So when you say bounce after the bump? do you mean a little or a lot. I bounce a little after the bump but idk if thats bad or not.
If you bounce up and down more than usual, your shocks could be worn. A shock is hard to depress and hard to expand so that when you hit a bump the spring absorbs the shock and the shock controls the spring. It could be that or what XLT said.

Hey I like my 3 front springs
I have two in the front and three in the rear. Is that how many I should have? It seems like a 3/4 ton should have more. I want more in the rear for greater payload. I haul hay in the back and I would like to put a ton on there without having to worry about breaking the leafs.
2 in the front sounds normal but you should have 5 in the back (unless that was a 87-94 thing). 3 in the back sounds low to me, but that could be cause I have 8 in the back for heavier loads.
Dave beat me to it but agreed check your leaf spring and shackle bushings. If they are shot the truck will sit lower to the bump stop and the leaf springs could be riding on the metal sleeve, metal on metal.
