No, it's not true and whoever told you that is either talking out their rear or the dealership told you so you'd always come back to them and overpay for oil changes. Look in your manual, any oil that meets the criteria in your manual is acceptable to use. It does not have to be Ford/Motorcraft oil.
I wouldn't trust the salesguy to understand anything more complicated than the price of the truck. Certainly not its specs or maintenance requirements.
