motor oil

just got a new 22 F450 4x4 so my 03 F350 4x4 with 418K doesn't have to pull 20K any more
was told to use only Ford motor oil, is that true

No, it's not true and whoever told you that is either talking out their rear or the dealership told you so you'd always come back to them and overpay for oil changes. Look in your manual, any oil that meets the criteria in your manual is acceptable to use. It does not have to be Ford/Motorcraft oil.

You can use any oil of Ford's approved list of diesel oils. WSS-M2C171-F1

No and I'd question any other advice this person gave you. The manual lists specs. Follow the specs.

You can use any oil that meets the specs in your owners manual. Just because it's not on Fords approved list does not mean you can't use it.

I'd use the same stuff you've used in the 2003. Seems to have been quite good.

You just purchased a very expensive and capable truck with many bells and whistles. Please read your owners manual, especially the maintenance portion.
