Ok.. Getting Ready to do the Oil Pan Gasket..
I got the Gasket today at Oriley.. 25.99 It's a long gasket..
and there are many holes.. Again.. I guess this is the
type og Gasket You don't put permatex or sealer on?
Right? No Sealer..? And my procedure is.. Jack up..
Jack Stand.. Drain Oil.. Unscrew Pan.. Put gasket on top
of Pan or What is the best way to put the Gasket on?
Onto the Chassie or Pan? and then Screw it on using
cross screw rotation... Right?

remember to take out the old gasket
i recomed startign for the side and "fishing" it in ( the gasket) their is hardly any way that you canget the gasket to stay on the chassie. just put the/ lien the gasket up on top of the ridge/edge of the pan.
im not sure how to screw it in id guess finegr tighten them all in.
then go every other one swithcing sides as you move along then follow up with thigthing them all up to either tourqing specs or just guess.
i mean as long as yu dont leave them loose and dont tighted them so hard they break off.
good luck man
hows the weather their it sucks here in Illinois and i have no garage to mess wiht my truck in.

AND NO A ONE PEICE RUBBER GASKET DOES NOT NEED SEALER!! LOL

good luck hope it all works out

No sealant, and yes be sure to pull the old gasket out. The gasket goes between the oil pan and the engine block, not the chassis. When you tighten them back up (get them all in figer tight to start with), start in the middle of the pan and go toward either end (front/back) of the engine, alternating - start in the middle then go one bolt forward, then go to the next bolt that's loose going back, then alternate like that so that you don't warp the pan. Also be mindful of the torque specs on those bolts. I think it's 10-18 ft. lbs. if I remember correctly. Basically until you start to see the gasket start to push out. Make sure you get the gasket aligned correctly so it seals properly. Any problems, let us know.

p.s. homoudont, calm down and type slowly. I can hardly make out what you are trying to say.

Gang.. That's quite allright I can decifer Speed typing and
definately appriciate the input.. This is very excellent
on the bolts tighten instructions.. Makes sense..
I do have a torque wrench which I will use.. That should
help prevent another leaking gasket.. Again.. Thanks
for the Input this should be quite the correct procedure
for Oil Gasket replacement.. Operation begins tommrow...
Hopefull I'll be done by end of day or sooner.. and
I'll update here.. Then.. Next is Trans Gasket..
Best Regards
Homoudont........Thanks for your input.. Please learn Classic
Rock Guitar so you can play in my band......

Ep... Just a tad more clarity on the bolt tighten sequence..

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

A B C D E F G H

You are saying.. Start with 4 (In the Middle) then go to D
Then 5 and then E Then 3 and then C making it middle
on both sides.. and out to both sides.. Like that?

lol i tried to play guitar and i sucked i quit after liek 3 months because i didnt have the time to practice. the transmition gasket will eb a breeeze compared to the oil pan gasket.

i have heared abotu how when you take off the tranny pan you should change the "filter". i would ask around and see if their is anything you can change that is inside the tranny pan that you would like ot replace.

lets see thsi is what i think would be best

well here is a pro pic of it http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/oilpan.html

their realy a couple diffrent ways
ATTENTION!!!
pay no attention to any of the other garbage on that site. thast nto what you are doing just look at the 3rd pic down from the top. it show a diagram of what to tighten first.

man! i just did this by myself, took me about 5 hours with a short lunch break. Now I am just waiitng for my bro in law too get home so i can borrow his torque wrench. Definately not the easiest job, coulda used another set of hands. I just pulled the gasket up the outside of the pan and over the top right into place. Didint lift the engine or anything.

Those peg things that come with the gasket to keep everything in place when you are trying to bolt it back up are awesome!

good job man, sounds like a good chunk of time but well worth it. i hope it all works out fine. ohh wanan see pics of my crappy old manifold i am replacing?? http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/443162/5

another fun thing to do is BONDO yeah sanding that stuff if oyu dont wera a mask gets you messed up. every time i use it without a mask ( sanding it) i get a bad cold. i bet thats not to good for the respiratory system, LOL. i hate that stuff such a pain to work with but yeah hope your truck works out fine and
all is well. the tranyn pan will be a short short job.

my neighbor "J" said, " when doing a tranny pan unbolten all bolts down to the same level so that the pan is even and not to just take out each screw then drop it." why you ask because if oyu dont have a plug on the tranny pan u have OIL init that will get all over. so work the way around unbolting the tranny pan so that it si let down evenly about 1/2 inch or so then loosen one side even more so it drops lower, make sure you have a pan to catch the oil in. let the oil drip untillit stops then proceed to take out the rest of the bolts. remmebr theri is still goign to be about 1 .5 inches of oil left in the dish of the pan. pour out the rest of the oil once its down.

so oyu never have to worry about not ebing able to change ur own tranny fluid/ without taking down the pan oyu can get a plug kit that you basically put a plug in yourslef. saves you some time and money. costs around 5-10 dollars.

once the pans down clean it out clean off the old gasket and all if oyu wish u degreaser on the endge of the tranny to get rid of all grease were the gasket will set. its just the same was as putitng up the oil pan same way of tighting nuts and everything, but its much easier because its in the open.

good luck

Ok.. I'm on hold thinking.. I jacked up the F150 and put
JACK Stands under it and got under there to see what's
going on.. I really did not find the leak on the Oil except
it seemed to be a hairline where the Oil pan joins at
the back and it's drueling down to the Plug screw. I looked
at the potential job and I'm much older than 15 so my bones
ake when I'm under there.. and I looked at it.. and it's
a complex job.. I don't have deep sockets.. (I do have
a toqure wrench) but there is all that crap and that exhaust
pipe under the Oil Pan.. It's a long reach and my Guitar
Arm has been hurting from using 12 Strings.. now looking
toward the front of the truck.. I can't even see the bolts
up there.. all that frame is in the way.. So I packed it
up to regroup and think about this.. Pass the Word in
San Antonio Texas I'm looking for someone that wants
to do it for cheap.. Fair money but not Pro prices.. and
I have the Gasket so if your in SA and are willing to
work cheap..Let me know..

Tran Gasket.. Yea.. Your right.. Cake walk compared to
Oil pan.. I mean it's right there. .but What I did was
I saw the leak on one side and decided to tighten up
the somewhat loose bolts on that side.. No I did not
touque them.. because...... I want to stop the leak..
knowing someday.. I'll have to replace it anyway..
That seemed to help the pavement.. so it's not leaking
as much.. In fact the Oil I cleaned off a bit when under there
and it's not leaking on the Ground.. I wonder if some
Oil Changer dropped a can down the hatch and it might
have been a oildrop mistake.. But what I have learned
with wisdoms.. Is Dont' jump in to fix it if it's not broke..
in an definate way.. So.. I'll see how it's doing.. and
yea. .I might have to bite the bullet and do it but
I'll wait until my arm feels better and I have a deep set..
I highly value my Guitar Arm.. over adding a little extra
oil.. Besides.. Might have to travel soon and both are
min leaks.. someone ought to invent a "bolt on" Truck
Tampon.. for Oil and Tran leaks.. I'm sure the Street
would appricaite it..
