So several weeks ago, as promised, I gave my 2006 F350 to my grandson for bringing home an awesome report card. Now, like any typical teenager, he spends every free minute with that truck. Last week, after traveling the local garage sale circuit, he found a 1706 Superchips programmer and headed straight my way to show him how to use it. One problem......no cable. So, as a retired electrical engineer (and learning the1706 has long been obsolete) I checked my basement of misc parts and sure enough, have all the parts here to make up a new cable, so wrote Superchips to see if they would give me the pinout for the connector that plugs into the 1706. Hah! What was I thinking? Of course not! It was worth a try. So here's my request for all of you, does anyone have a 1706 (or 1705 or other Superchip programmers from that era with the Amphenol DB15 style connector on the top of their programmer)? And the cable? If so, would you be willing to meter out the the two ends of the cable and let me know the pin out? I know I could probably find a used programmer pretty cheap, but part of being retired is being perpetually dead broke and after spending $10 on the programmer, my grandson is broke, too. Thanks!
Can't help you with the tuner, but a word of advice you'll likely get more than just from me: Tuning a 6.0 can be extremely hazardous to ones bank account. If nobody has money to fix it when it breaks, I'd skip any thoughts of hopping it up...
If you're scraping by and 10.00 depleted your grandson's funds, leave the truck stock and let him use it. I am guessing the tunes on that programmer are straight garbage canned tunes, which is sure to destroy that truck (ask me how I know....twice)
Best to learn everything you can about proper maintenance a 6.0 needs to stay reliable before trying kick up the HP and torque. Besides Ford already did it for you.
Tech folder is a good place to start. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html
The 6.0 needs to be monitored by downloading either Forscan or Torque Pro on a smartphone or tablet and a compatible OBD-II adapter.
And don't be afraid to ask questions the guys on here are willing to help but they need data to understand a problem.
