Discussion - TFT sensor relocation???
Anyone successfully relocated the sensor “externally”? Obvious purpose would be to avoid dropping the pan to replace the sensor when it goes bad. Secondly, eliminating the internal harness as a culprit of bad wiring for the dreaded check gage/flashing Tow/Haul light issue. Narrows the troubleshooting down a bit.
Immediate thoughts are, why would you relocate it when it rarely goes out. And when it does, it’s probably not a bad idea to change the fluid and filter anyway.
Thoughts? Anyone successfully done it? Would you drill and tap the case somewhere if there’s even a spot? Weld a bung on the pan? Is there a big difference in temperature from its current spot to in the pan?

My question is still, could I relocate it instead of just adding an additional one?
I went for it and started by making a jumper cable from the extra external trans harness from a F250 I bought off eBay. I depinned the 2 TFT sensor wires and stripped them from the harness. I swapped the pinned ends from the PCM side connector and the other ends to a GlowShift temp sensor I bought and installed in the pressure test port. 1/8”x27. With this setup, truck runs just like stock. I did this to troubleshoot a suspected bad internal wiring harness. It worked great. It’s also an alternative to relocating the TFT sensor to the outside of the transmission.
NOTE: This specific GlowShift sensor runs a little higher (hotter) than the stock TFT sensor by about 15-20 degrees. I knew this going into it, but the purpose was to troubleshoot a bad internal trans harness and to see if this worked without any other “side effects”. I will be trying to find a closer range sensor to swap out.
