Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I miss driving my pickup! My truck started stalling intermittently earlier this summer. It has happened primarly when I leave work and when backing out of a parking space. I can back out of the parking space and when I go to shift it into drive it dies instantly. No codes are stored and it always starts back up immediately. It did this maybe 3 or 4 times over the summer, but always in a parking lot going zero miles an hour. But on a recent trip it started dieing as I was driving home. It would die and then immediately fire back up, kinda like popping the clutch on a manual transmission vehicle. I have several logs from Forscan and I don't see anything odd, but what do I know? If anyone has suggestions for data, I will be glad to post it up.
The only work that I have done on the truck this year were a couple of small projects this summer, but the first couple of stalls were before any work was done. I dropped the fuel tank to replace the pickup foot that had disentegrated into a gazillion pieces. Fuel tank was cleaned, vent lines replaced, fuel filters replaced and of course a new fuel pickup. I also flushed the transmission which I am embarrased to say was waaaaaaaaaay overdue. I upgraded to the later tranmission pan and filter at that time. I probably had several hundred miles on the new fluid when it started stalling while driving. I did drop the transmission pan and pulled the TCC solenoid. It tested within the correct range of resistance and the solenoid would actuate with 12v applied.
Here's a sample from the Forscan charting tool from testing in the driveway where it died 4 times in just a couple of minutes.
A bit late, but here's the resolution of this problem and maybe it will help someone else down the road. I started chasing down my electrical gremlin one weekend and after a lot of digging through wiring harnesses for chafing/damage I got frustrated and let the truck sit for a couple of months. It was actually during the first part of my troubleshooting the wiring and the only thing that I actually repaired that was the problem. There was a small bundle of wires that were chafing on the steering column. You could see a wear mark on the steering column and that the insulation on one of the wires was worn down. It was almost not visible to the naked eye, but with a bright light you could see a slight glint of copper. There was barely a tiny portion of one strand of the wire exposed but it was enough. I repaired that wire and secured that section of the harness away from the steering column.
