Could be Ignition module, I toasted 2 modules in a new Mallory Unilite dizzy within 2500 miles. Pulled it all out and installed a DSII, running great so far (3+ years).

Back in the sixties we would pour water on the fuel line to relieve vapor lock. Easy to try!

I had success with a 1 wire alternator by connecting the wire from the number two terminal back to your main terminal on the alternator (the one that goes to your battery). Before that, it never charged properly.
Good luck with it.

so here's a list of everything done so far

full tank of premium
vented cap
tank clean and pickup filter clean
fuel pressure 5 psi

new dui module
new dist cap and rotor
new 100 amp alternator
new optima battery
ample sized wiring to distributor and
from alternator to battery
dui known ground problem corrected

phenolic block added under carb to cut heat

elec fuel pump added at tank to over come
tank outlet being lower then fuel line run
new fuel filter
all fuel lines clear

took it out for a test drive to check it using new additional elec fuel pump
everything ok on ride to town
on the return trip it quit like you cut the switch off...
no fire at all.

trailered it home and started backtracking
checked the voltage to dist..godd
checked the module resistances..good
checked the mag pickup...good
checked the coil resistances/continuity...good
fuel to the carb...good (lathouugh this is definitely an elec problem)
worked with the Performance Distributor tech guru for 2 hours on and off on the phone and we rechecked all above
He finally said there was nothing wrong with the distributor and offered to check all out if I sent it to him... then he said
"is the distributor turning ?" ...odd question I thought but said I didn't know so I pulled the cap and turned the engine over
the rotor never moved...
more discussion with PD tech...either pin on cam gear is stripped or the gear itself...
pulled the distributor and here's what I found

will be back on phone with PD tech this and discuss... also the shaft is very hard to turn...
waiting on endoscope to check cam gear teeth... also will drain oil and flush engine to get
rid of all those little nasty metal (hopefully bronze) pieces floating around

if it ain't one thing.....

john

I'm not sure what you engine is but with a roller cam you need a hardened dist gear .

Here are some thoughts from an earlier FTE thread: 460 eats distributor gears - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com)

Unfortunately, they didn't post the resolution, if there was one.

Also, some thoughts from 460 dot com: Excessive Bronze Distributor Gear Wear | 460 Ford Forum

Billet roller cam needs a melonized distributor gear. Iron core roller cams need a bronze distributor gear. Need to verify oil pump isn't binding. Ford distributor gear installation and setup is a little more involved than other brands. There's several good articles about it if you search "Ford distributor gear mesh".

Well done! my only comment would be to add an impact switch in-line to cut off the pump if you are aver in an accident.

Good to hear John!
That might explain the backfire or chuffing you heard from the carb. An engine running too lean will tend to do that.
Thanks for letting us know!
