Tools needed

Hey guys - I have general mechanics tools, brake line flaring tool, etc.

But, I'm getting ready to remove the front spindles to replace the king pins and figure I will be replacing my inner and outer wheel bearings.

Do I need an axle bearing puller set? Or on my '52 F3, do these "just slide off"?

Thanks for help.

No special tools needed to remove or install those bearings. Suggest the existing bearings and races be cleaned and inspected. If they are in good shape, purge them and reinstall them. If the bearings are not in good shape, replace them. Replacement bearings will probably be made offshore. Install new seals.

Thanks - will it be obvious if they are worn out? I did order new inner and outer bearings, races and brake drum / hub grease seals as I don't want to be up to my elbows just to find out everything needs replaced.
I also have been reading all the posts about new parts being substandard so will likely reuse the old, higher quality stuff if it can be cleaned and reintalled.

Damaged Wheel Bearing? Here are Five Things You Need to Know | Wheelco Support Center
Read the article down to the section where it tells how to evaluate a wheel bearing. If the bearing is bad, it will be rather obvious. Compare your original bearings to the new bearings. If you are reusing the original bearings, replace the bearing in the same location it was removed. If the inner race is good and the caged rollers are good, there is no need to remove the race.

EDit: IMO, not all new parts are substandard but it is a "crapshoot".

Good article, thanks, very helpful.
Looking forward to parts arriving and getting started in the teardown.

Do you have the stock-sized king pin reamer? I have one that members can borrow if you don't.

Thanks - I don't and I will reach out if I end up needing it and I don't get one locally.

Just let me know. Happy to send it out your way (free of charge). It's a .814" full reamer (a bit old but effective)

Just finished the same project(s). My king pins came right out but you may need to rent a tool from oreillys. control arm puller. and pickle fork for the tie rod ends. same on races for bearings..they rent a tool that makes it much easier. Mine were pretty straightforward. Be sure to change draglink springs, bushings, seals. that's where I saw the most wear and got the most improvement from. good luck!

This is a fantastic point about the drag link. I found a ton of play in mine and wound up ordering parts to rebuild it before putting the front end back together. Having those inexpensive parts on hand before I started would have save me almost 2 weeks as I waited for the parts.
