After reading all the dialogue about the "venturi effect tubes" from a couple of weeks ago...I located them on my 1989 460 and cut them off. I immediatly realized 5 MPH increase and an additional 300 RPM when towing my 9,000 lb. load over the mountains. Way to go Guys/Gals! Deen
Deen,
I too, have an '89 F250 w/ 460. I'll have to look further for the discussion you mentioned. Are you talking about the venturi's in the intake air hoses? I pulled my hoses today, to gain better access to my air conditioner compressor, and saw them. Thought about pulling them out, except the idle air bypass hose is right there and I didn't want to screw up the idle system. Are we talking about the same "venturi's"? If so, why are they there in the first place, and how'd you remove them?
Yes, they are the ones. I have not experienced any bad side effects (2,000 miles later). Use a hacksaw to cut them off (after removing unit from vehicle), make sure you file the edges to smooth air flow and then re-install...that's all there is to it. Deen

I went back thru page 8 on the discussion list and could not find the dialogue about the venturi effect tubes either. I tried a search, but it only pulled up these threads. Deen---could ya point us in a direction on this? Thanks. Mike has got his hack saw out and ready!
