So I am placing an order on LMC to get all the pieces to attach my lower trim on my Ford F100 short bed, and I found the solid Star part that appears to be in the inside of the wheel well, not sure of the purpose of this part. Can anyone provide any information on this part. I guess I would need a total of 4, if I need them that is. I already have chrome wheel trim on each of my wheel wells, so I am not sure if I need this solid star part, I have circled the part I am referencing in the picture below. Thanks!
Have fun drilling holes in your truck....seal those holes very well. That trim can be a dirt trapping/rust magnet.
so I went out and bought some rubber washers, pretty thick ones to use so I can tighten it down as much as possible, but when you say seal, how exactly is the best method to seal the trim. First thing I thought was clear silicone on the top, kinda to make sure nothings drips past it and gets trapped inside, any other tips? Happy that my whole truck is a Texas truck, rust free and want to keep it that way.
also, what do you mean by drilling holes? My truck originally had this lower trim, are there any additional holes that I need to do?
No you do not "seal" the trim, it just is against the truck body like the other trim. It is tight, but not sealed so to speak, so water and dirt do get by it. And that is where is can cause some rust issues. I had that trim cause a rust hole in my old blue 79 passenger side cab corner. I meant "seal" if you had to drill holes to add the trim. But if you already had the trim on the truck, then no new holes to drill. BEFORE I wrecked it, that rust spot on the cab corner bothered me. After the wreck...not so much. Speeding in the rain and night thru a fresh paved S curve, went sideways, curb jumped into a corner post on a split rail fence and rolled it on it passenger side. After about 1 hour on it side and when the cops left, the wrecker flipped it back over, I put 3 qts of oil in it, finally got it to start up and it drove home.
