I now have 3 newer trucks. 21 F250 XLT and 2 F550's XL's. All 3 do the same thing. While using hands free via bluetooth after some period, might be a minute, might be 10 minutes, they all go into garbled mode. So, this is where I can barely understand the person on the other end and they too experience the same on their end. Anyone else have this issue?
My previous 2015 F-150 and my current 2019 F-350 both work great with the Bluetooth handsfree. I've talked for hours on many occasions and the only issues I had was with cell connectivity.
I've always used Android phones but I'm not sure that matters. You should test it using a different phone.

I have had this issue on all 3 F-series trucks I have owned, all with Sync 3.x. 2019, 2020, and 2021. Android phones, Galaxy S9, S20, and S22. It only happens about once or twice a month. I stream music and it starts streaming every other word, cutting in and out. Same w/ if I am on a call, can only hear every other word. Disconnecting and reconnecting the phone works to fix it. Maybe try unpairing the phone, factory reset the system on the truck, and repair the phone. It has to be something w/ Ford's bluetooth coding.
I prefer a wired connection over a wireless connection anytime it’s an option. To me, the wired connection just works better, plus I have found wireless connections over longer periods of time really eat into the battery… which means you will want to plug it back up to recharge it anyway. I do use MagSafe at home to charge my phone, but I’m not a fan of the wireless charging in these trucks. Thankfully I went with an XLT so I don’t have to deal with wireless CarPlay or charging.
There has been several times that I have hopped into my truck while on a call and didn’t plug it in right away, so the Bluetooth connection picked it up. I can always tell a difference though once I get it plugged in and wired CarPlay takes over. The voice becomes louder and more crisp. When just connected to Bluetooth it sounds distant and almost like and echo. I haven’t had it turn to garble but I never leave it in Bluetooth connection long enough to allow it.

Were you using the same phone when this happened?
Try another phone. That will at least tell you if it's a phone issue or a truck issue.
I have tried 3 different phones, albeit all Apple, with the same result. I have a brand new 13. I also cannot get Apple Car play to work with any ot the phones I have tried. Truck in the shop as I type for a couple of things. Hopefully having the USB port in the compartment fixed will solve this issue.
