Hey guys, just joined the forum to hopefully get some insight into this. I've decided to replace the transmission in my truck, it's a 95 extra cab f250 with 4wd and the 7.3 Powerstroke. It's been in the family for years and serves as a great farm truck so it's worth putting some love to it with a new transmission.
So as of now, the cheapest rebuilt e4od I could find online is from these guys, https://reman-transmission.com/trans...des/?code=E4OD. To be honest, I don't think 2300 bucks sounds bad at all. However, a local trans shop has a used e4od with roughly 100k miles on it for only 700 bucks. Normally I would just go ahead and throw in the used one for that much of a price difference but apparently, it was in a 93 gas truck. I'm assuming it had the 5.8? Anyways, looking for some clarity here on if an e4od from a gas truck will work with diesel.
Diesel tranny often have 6 pinion steel planets as opposed to 3 or 4 pinion planet in gas (ive seen v10 s with 4 or 6 pinion planets ) also diesel and v10 tend to have more room in the drums and clutch packs for more fractions and steels. There have been changes to pumps drum etc etc over the years but if u know what to look for u can intermix or remove internals from 1 case to another without issue.
