I’ve been curious why my 94 takes less oil than my 97 when doing oil changes. I have not found any information of different capacities through different years. Finally put the two dipsticks next together and they are definitely different. They are the same length but the full indication are different. Any thoughts ?
My 97 seems to take 14.5quarts to be right on the full line. When just dropping the oil in the pan and filter.. my 94.5 with the dipstick even less. Maybe some one has swapped the dipstick, I know 94.5 was a weird year, the truck has alot of idi parts
I’m thinking it’s the factory dipstick but maybe the early years came with a different dipstick….. should I be adding more oil ? Especially is the oil capacity is the same throughout the years
The 94.5 doesn’t feel like it down on power. I do have 160/30 in it though. I may change dipstick and start adding more oil. That engine has a bad aeration problem…. Maybe being low on oil does not help….. I know the early models had problems with the pick up tubes
So, I got this info on here years ago, but essentially, some of the early trucks came with a dipstick that had incorrect indications of oil level on it.
3.5 gallons is the correct amount of oil. Give or take a smidge.
