Going to drop the pan at least 3 times to get rid of as much of the old fluid as possible then on the third change the filter. Do any of youz use Valvoline VI / Mercon LV full synthetic instead of Motorcraft Mercon LV ?
My Ford like everyone I've ever owned would know when a non factory part was installed and reject it. Can't answer why but everyone knew when I did it.

I stick with OEM Mercon LV for many reasons. I found dropping the pan to be a mess though. I did that once to clean the magnets off and get the fluid level just right. Then I purchased a Mity-Vac to suction 3 quarts of fluid from the dipstick hole every other engine oil change. Then I invested a couple hundred in a B&M dipstick tube and add or subtract fluid through that with my Mity-Vac. Now it's a 15 min job without risk of being burned by hot cats! https://www.skf.com/mityvac/products...cuators/mv7300
My opinion is that if you need to change the fluid you also need to change the filter which requires the pan to be dropped.
If you do some more research you will find that its not really a "filter" at all. Its more like a coarse screen. If its not clogged with chunks of metal, replacing it isn't really helping anything,,,

If you do even more research you will find out that all of that changed in 2008. Now there is a real filter in the pan. It is no longer a screen, and it needs to be changed on a regular basis.

Ok, show us a link please, preferably with a pic of filter cut open. Everything I have read says otherwise. But now I won't know for sure until I cut one open...
I don't have a link to share. I just know that when I was an automatic trans engineer at Ford the filters were changed in 2008 to real filters. You're welcome to believe or not believe what I said.
