Hydroboost pedal swap question
I noticed this truck uses a vacuum dump valve for cruise control actuated by a white plastic part on the pedal. I modified a vacuum pedal by moving the pin, so I didn't have a parts truck to look at. Did the f superduties with cruise control use these as well? Also I noticed without the part on the pedal, the pedal seems to return much higher than the vacuum system. I attached a picture with the piece I'm talking about. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated
I found I had an extremely low brake pedal. Found the reman booster I got has the incorrect length pushrod which is around 1" too short. Always measure. It should stick out about 1" from the mounting flange on the booster.
A company sells a cut to fit pushrod that fits all hydroboosts that will fix my issue.
Vacuum booster pushrod
Booster with incorrect pushrod
Ford booster with correct pushrod length
You want a crazy idea? Add another one of those valves to your clutch if you're running a bolt-action transmission, then you can do away with the troublesome electric switch on the clutch pushrod, which both allows you to use an adjustable pushrod with a heim joint and also makes it so the cruise reingages automatically after you've shifted gears without any input needed from you at the steering wheel. Also makes it so the truck will start without having to push the clutch in, which sounds kinda unsafe till you realize other manufacturers elsewhere in the world have been doing it for ages (my Pajero Mk2 for example has zero safeties on the clutch), but if you wanted to avoid that a GM brake switch from an 80s truck will do the job nicely.
