5 speed swap question

So I'm right in the middle of my 5 speed swap in my 83 f100 and I went to swap out the pedal assembly and the old assembly is completely different from the new one.

I have a m5od from a 1990 f150 and a pedal assembly from a 1995 f150.

Is there a specific pedal assembly I need to look for because this one is not even close to working.

1995 f150 pedal assembly

1995 clutch pedal assembly again

1983 clutch pedal asswmbly

I think you're limited to 84-86 but @ArdWrknTrk knows more for sure, maybe he'll stop by...

Jim does know more, but Chris is right - you need pedals from an 83 to 86. The bracket changed significantly in 87.

And, the automatic pedal casting cant be used for a manual set of pedals. So, you have to find the manual set.

And, according to what ND Bill told us just the other day but I've already forgotten the specifics about, the migration from mechanical to hydraulic clutch linkages took two years; *some* went hydraulic starting in 1983 and all other models followed suit in 1984... but I forget the details....

Yep. That's why I said '83 - 86. Just find a set of hydraulic linkage pedals in these trucks and they'll work. However, there were differences in the assist springs, so the pedal pressure may not be quite right, depending on what you find. But I can give you the spring color codes if needed.

And, since you appear to be changing from an auto you should consider doing the firewall brace. These firewalls were designed for mechanical linkage - as discussed here: Mechanical Clutch Linkage - Gary's Garagemahal

Nope its not an auto, it had a 3 speed in it.

Origanly 3 on the tree, but the guy I bought it from converted it to a floor shift with let's say less than spectacular skill....

Even if it had a manual in it you might want to think about reinforcing the firewall. Hydraulic linkages our stresses on them they weren't designed to handle.

The Ford plate, which is available 3rd party, actually works in 3 dimensions. It has ears that wrap around the corner and bolt into the transmission hump. That gives it a lot more strength than just working in 2 dimensions.

This guy - Terrapin Mfg - makes a reinforcement plate. But it's his moonlight gig, so check in wrt. turnaround time.
