I'm getting ready to work on my 69 f100 in which I will be converting to disk brakes( front only), installing djm beams and power steering, so I figured I might as well go hydro boost but I am not sure if I can use a new modern aluminum MC. I am going to be using a ford super duty hydro boost brb33 and i will buy a wilwood prop valve 260-11179 does anyone have any recommendation on which master cylinder to use?
yes you can use most any ford master cylinder. I would go with a 2000s f150 as it is a decent match to brake size. Rock auto lists bore size and whatnot. Good luck.
I used a Ford motorcraft BRMC38 for my 1994 F350 axles.
Ok thank you. I've been told that an 05 f150 would work. I was wondering if the 95 explorer mc would work also I know people use it with the vaccum booster.
05 f150 mc will not work at all. The snout on the back of the mc is way to long only possible way to make it work is to remove the retainer inside hydro boost and see if that works. Base to end is 1.785 inch's. The face of the hydro boost to the rear most retainer grove is 0.8175 inch.
I am going to try a 03 f150 but it is made to work with 4 wheel abs and is 1.1875 bore. Does it matter that it is designed to work with abs either 2 wheel or 4 wheel?
Well that is a somewhat complicated question. 2 or 4 wheel ABS systems modulate brake pressure to rear brakes under heavy braking where they skid. So you would need a proportioning valve to compensate and adjust for your truck.
Non abs trucks had some sort of limit device in rear circuit. Finding one that is a good match for your truck is unlikely. go with adjustable valve.
I would stay with a master cylinder that is from a disc/drum. Looks like in 2003 150 could be either. 1-3/16 bore may be a bit much, IMO.
I have the 03 on it now but I still have a while before I drive it. I did have to shorten the rod on the hydro boost a 1/16th. I will also install a willwood combo valve that has the built in adjuster for rear circuit.i will also add a ten pound residual value and see how it works. I'll update later on how it functions.
update:
I have been driving with the set up for about a year now it has been working great it will however lock up the front brakes if i slam on the brakes but for day to day driving it does great stops very well.
