I have a 2017 diesel super duty, We were coming home from a horse show 2 weeks ago and I noticed that the temperature gauge started showing up numbers above it which I have never seen before. It went all the way up to 228 when going up hills.. It was very hot out but I have never seen this and have hauled it in much hotter temperatures. I noticed that this weekend on another trip it did the same thing but after it geared down the numbers went away. The fluid is at the same level hot or cold.. Getting into Ford is absolutely impossible or anyone else in this area... The fluid is way over the Max line all the time hot or cold has anyone had this issue I just don't want to get stuck on the road the truck is driving just fine but I've never seen these numbers above the gauge before.
the numbers are programed to come on above a certain temp. so you can moniter it.
you can also turn them on all the time with forscan. sticky at the top of this sub forum.
Have you opened the cap on that reservoir? I bet that when you open the cap the level will change. I'm not saying that's how you're supposed to check it, but the level would likely change. It did on mine.
It does look like yours is a bit too full. I wouldn't worry about it. My engine oil temp will hit 242°F when towing in the mountains. I watch that and the transmission temperature. I don't watch the coolant temp much.
Is the fact that the levels aren't changing a concern?
it looks clean (not contaminated with fuel or oil) so no I wouldn't be too concerned, as Jim said loosen the cap (when cold) and see what the level does. if it still has a lot of pressure after sitting all night then I might have some concern.
The coolant should be good for many miles. 100,000 miles until the first change. The dealership can test the coolant and add Motorcraft Specialty Orange Engine Coolant Revitalizer (VC-12) if the test indicates it is needed.
your numbers are normal and nothing to worry about. Mine will get into the 230 range and the fan kicks on and you can watch the temperatures drop, at least 1 deg a second. don't worry and let the truck take care of itself
I tend to look at engine oil and transmission temperatures. The first time I hit 240°F on the engine oil I kind of freaked out. Then I read up on it here and found that it's normal. Not once has my truck derated due to temperatures.
