A couple weeks ago I wanted to do a drain and fill on my 2015 F250 6.7.
I had already bought 6 gallons of Zerex G05, which claims to be suitable for use in the 6.7.
Using something other than Motorcraft seemed risky because Ford makes such a big deal about using the proper coolant. It's also the wrong color and I had always thought colors should not be mixed. Not sure where I heard that. So, I bought 4 gallons of the orange stuff from Autozone that also claims to be suitable for use in the 6.7.
I drained the main radiator and measured the amount that came out. Still a bit nervous about using the non-motorcraft coolant, I waited until Monday and went to Sunnyvale Ford (California) to get Motorcraft Coolant.
The parts guy went into the back room and didn't come out for a while. When he did come out he was carrying 4 gallons of some other type of coolant. Green stuff. Not the orange stuff.
I questioned him about it and he said Ford doesn't have the orange stuff anymore and this is what should be used in all of their vehicles, even the 6.7.
It sounded like b.s. when he said it and it still sounds like b.s.
Does anyone know if this is true?
First to start with a question. Is the coolant Ford gave you yellow or green? What does the front of the bottle say?
Quick answer is Yellow is what you want. They did do away with the orange. It is now yellow. You can do a full flush or add it to the orange. You can mix the two. Good thing is you do not have to test your coolant with the strips. (But from what I understand not many do anyway)
The Ford parts guy was NOT BSing you. The previous orange coolant originally used on just about all Ford's from around 2011 model years has long been discontinued, and superceded to the current yellowish greenish coloured coolant which Ford began using in their vehicles beginning around 2020 model years to current.

Believe it or not, there are likely a lot of parts guys who aren't up to speed about this change, hence why it took your parts guy a bit of time to get you your coolant.
My 6.2 liter has developed a slow fluid leak up forward on the driver's side; I haven't been able to positively identify the source but I think it is a coolant leak coming from a hose or hose fitting in the upper radiator. So, it's now dark and colder than the South Pole so I'm not trying to ID the leak right now but want to have some replacement coolant to add if necessary. Went to the nearest auto parts (and the only store open in this little town) and they didn't have any of the recommended Motorcraft orange coolant - they did have Valvoline Zerex "Orange OAT Formula" so I got a gallon.
Does anybody know if it's a problem to mix this Zerex stuff with the Motorcraft coolant?
Thanx.
>>> UPDATE <<<
I just learned that Ford is now using a yellow coolant (Motorcraft VC-13-G) . Lst year I had a coolant flush done so I went back and checked the invoice and found that they used the VC-13-G coolant.
So now, my question is, is the Zerex orange oat compatible with the Motocraft VC-13-G yellow?
