Alright, I asked every parts store and the dealership and they've all given me the same ansewer but I'm pretty sure they're wrong. What kind of coolant does my truck take??? They've all said it takes the green stuff but the stuff I that I can see is more of a pee green or yellow than a dark green like good ol antifreeze. so whats the deal?
The next question is what effect will the green stuff have if I use it and its not suppose to be used? I took there word for it and change it out but now I'm second guessing myslef.
I have an 02 Ex..My Coolant is the Gold Coolant Ford uses. It is part # VC 7 A. In my owners manual. It specifically says you CANNOT interchange the Gold coolant with any other color coolant or the Gold (original) coolant will lose some of it's properties.
If you can..Post a picture of the coolant resivour and maybe we all can help you out.
Big Rig, you can look in my gallery "03 F250 Super Duty" There is a picture of teh engine bay where you can see the coolant resorvor but it won't do you any good because it's green in the picture. Like I said I finally gave in after 3 parts houses and the dealer ship telling me to use the green stuff so thats what I put in. I did watch to make sure that it mixed without becoming all gooy (what happens when adding green to dexcool). I also tested it to make sure I had a good mixture of green stuff and it test to -40*F. I kinda think that I had the gold stuff that you are refering to, the stuff I drained out was kinda of a pee yellow.
you would have had the GO5 HOAT coolant good for a minimum of 150,000 miles. the green stuff is the worst thing. the green is very high in silicate. also mixing hte 2 coolants can cause a acidic coolant which will eat gaskets. HOAT coolant is not to be mixed with the green high silicate coolant. are you sure you flushed the whole system? heater core? engine block? radiator? and tank?
Yeh, I got all old stuff out and the new in but if thats the stuff I'm suppose to be using why didn't ANYBODY know anything about it? They all looked at me like I was asking some stupid question, even the dealer (and this isn't just some hole in the all dealership)!! I almost forgot to add that this chapps my *** since I checked and double checked!!
the dealers don't know. the manual clearly says G-O5 coolant Ford Gold. the stuff is pricey. about 11.00 a gallon. its good for 150k easy because it uses HOAT.

If it makes any difference to ya, I've had a green/gold mix, and then all green in mine for 5 years. I change it every year, maybe it makes a difference. I put Prestone or something that says 'good for all makes' or similar in it. From what I was told, aluminum heads are sensitive to old coolant, so I change it often, the dog likes to drink up what spills anyway so it's all good.
I personally was burned with that **** dexcool that GM tryed to pass off as extend change interval coolant so now I just say the heck with it and every year I change all three of my vehicles (and my tractor). This is how I got into this predicument, I figured I might as well change the pickup too and go figure but I ended up putting in the wrong stuff since I figured I could trust 3 places all with the same ansewer.
That pretty funny about your dog licking up the excess, I had to read it twice to catch that, lol.
I've seen this stuff all mixed, and I have to say the dexcool will actually make a mess and get all gooy if you mix any other coolant with it, the ford gold stuff doesn't (if thats what my truck had in it) because when I drain it out I mixed it into a 30 gal drum that had green coolant in it and it mixed right in with it (I guess this is the reason I assumed these guys were right). So if Ford Gold is HOAT and Dexcool is OAT coolant than what is the regualr old green stuff??
