Removing Heater assembly

I did some searching and haven't found the answer. '55 F250. I was going to pull out the heater assembly to check the blower motor and the heater core and make sure I dodn't have 50 years of mice living on there.

I am pretty good at figuring this stuff out but cannot figure how to get it apart and out. Do you have to take the cowl side panels off to get to additional bolts? I was silly enough to think that if I removed the 5 nuts on the firewall it would all slide back but it won't budge....If i have to take of the cowl side panel then it is going to stay in the truck and hope it works...and if it doesn't then it doesn't...

Any help appreciated!

I have a 55 F-100 and it came out easy just remove the bolts on the fire wall. I did take the cover off in the cab. cancel that I just re read the whole post about the whole enchilada . I will look but when I had my fenders off there were no bolts/nuts on the outside of the cab. There more than likely a bracket coming down from the dash. Like I say I will look.
Just looked I see a bolt coming through the fire wall above the throttle linkage might be one. Also take the core out and you might see more. When I had my core out I did not look as I did not need to take the whole assembly out. Good Luck and let us know.

It should pull out. Have someone tap on it with a rubber mallet while you're inside pulling on it. Like art Scott said above take the core out first. I do know there is an attachment for the defroster plenum somewhere.

There is what is supposed to be called a duct boot in the fresh air vent that connects the side cowl fresh air vent to the heater box. I say "supposed to be" because these are like a vinyl/cloth material that deteriorate over the years and a lot of owners either then use tape or tin or something else to connect the two.

If this is not removed the heater box will not come out.

Looks similar to #1 in this diagram --> https://www.lmctruck.com/1948-56-for...ent-components p/n= 43-1057

The ones I removed in my trucks had a piece of inner tube joining the fresh air duct to the main heater box. I have two complete fresh air units and a block off for a non fresh air unit..no use for them myself..

Got it off! The tape holding the intakes together was part of the problem and I missed the little bracket that bolts up under the dash. All good!

The passenger side defroster duct got ruined so I need to find another one if anyone has one lying around!

glad I opened it up, Two large mud wasp nests in there which certainly would have impacted airflow plus blown dirt around for ever. Inactive fortunately. No mouse issues.

Pics in my build thread as well but here they are.

I am looking fir the heater ducts. The part that goes between the dash defrost vent and the heater core. Mine are old and brittle and broken.

Does anyone have a pair or have a macgyver solution like some alternative flex duct they used that fits.

I purchased NOS replacement ducts as per above but they are the defroster vents not the ductwork between the vent and heater.

ducts

Am at brothers out of stare till Oct 3 . My apologies for the mis understanding . When you mentioned ducts it refers to the defrost ducts . If defrost hose was mentioned would have been clear . Send them back & I will refund your $$. Thanks , Denny
