Just wanted to share this and maybe save someone else from the same thing. I needed to replace my flywheel ring gear, figured I'd do the clutch at the same time. Got the clutch kit, flywheel faced, ring gear replaced. my grandson helped me put it back together but we couldn't get the trans to slide in. It got late, I said let it sit. Today, about six weeks after starting this project, I'm trying to put the tranny back in with the help of a cherry picker, but I can't further than the TO bearing. Finally I pull the pressure plat and clutch disc, The input shaft is 1 3/8" and the new disc is about 1 1?16"! No wonder it didn't go! I should have checked it when I got the kit, or at least before we put it together. Too late to return it, threw the box away weeks ago, chalk it up to experience.
Don’t tell my wife but I have a couple boxes of parts I ordered and didn’t try till it was too late.
Learned me not to get ahead of myself on projects.
Besides the disc on the input shaft of the trans try the new pilot bushing / bearing on the input shaft as well.
May also slide the TO bearing on the front bearing retainer / sheave to make sure it fits too.

I had to get this back together so I used the old clutch disc, it has a few miles left in it and the parts store couldn't find one with the right spline. (A different counter man found it yesterday, so I'm going to get it and put it on the shelf). If anyone can use a 10" clutch with the smaller spline let me know, they can have it for the cost of postage.
Sorry for your trouble, but I had to chuckle because the opposite happened to me. Although I didn't get as a far as trying to put the trans in. NAPA gave me a clutch for the 1 3/8" input, along with this giant throwout bearing, when I needed the 1 1/16" shaft size.
Maybe I got your disc, and you got mine......Probably not, but it's plausible!
But wait, there's more! The ring gear had been flipped over because the back looked good and we weren't sure if another new one would be any better than the one we got that was slightly oversize. I got it back together, clutch adjusted, new exhaust system warmed up and retightened. Sunday morning I went out to test drive, starter won't engage the ring gear. OK, I'll bite the bullet and try to find a complete flywheel/ring gear, but I need to move the van. So I hook a chain between it and my cousins PU, going to pull it in gear to turn engine to a spot that will engage. Start to tighten the chain, WAIT-- did I put the van in gear? Put truck in park (I thought), jump out, its moving backward in R! Jump back in, hitting brake, put it in park, back to van, put it in third, back to truck. Thats when I discover the drivers door that I had left open when I got out the first time had caught the picket fence and over opened! Bright spot, no one hurt and I found a door at a local boneyard.
So I just want to say - Don't get in a hurry and BE CAREFUL.
Stupid mistake. Been there, done that, will do it again. lol
I remember one time years ago I was at a truck garage to install a windshield. The shop foreman was berating the mechanics for taking the time to lay all the parts out before putting a trans back in a dump truck. He grabbed the transmission jack, lifted the trans, slide it right in and started the bolts. Thats when one of the mechanics pointed at the clutch and TO bearing and said deadpan "shouldn't these go in first?" The foreman didn't say a word, turned and went back to his office.

I guess my first sign should have been the wrong TO bearing in the kit, Chalked it up to Shxx Happens, especially when your working on a truck thats 56 years old! But the counter man spent about 20 minutes Sunday morning digging through his books and computer to find a part no. for the clutch disc and gave me a clutch return spring. NAPA stores nationwide are probably going to post a DO NOT WAIT ON sign with my picture!
