You may want to check the 8th digit of the vin to double check what engine you have. I looked up a 1983 f350 and a 6.6 wasn't listed. I looked up a 1982 f350 and it was listed. You also didn't say if it was 4x4 or not. I picked a 2 wheel drive in Washington state, here are the places that had a c6 in Washington. As you can see, late 70's trucks also used this combination. And a transmission for a 460 will also fit. The 6.6/400 had the same bell pattern as the 460.

When I switched my '89 from manual to auto (C-6), I used a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 floor shifter and left the column alone. Since it is a ratchet shifter, I dispensed with the kickdown linkage, because if I need to downshift all I have to do is slap it down.

I used one of those things in a project I had, and I hated it. It had all this reverse lock out stuff on it. You would not believe the amount of messing around you had to do to go from drive to park. I guess it's alright for drag racing, but I will never buy another one for everyday use.
I just finished installing a B&M 80775 Unimatic shifter in my '52 pickup with a 302 and AODE-W trans. It's a pretty basic kit, but it comes with all the stuff to use with a C6. I had to fabricate my own brackets and levers to use with the AODE-W, but it seems to shift OK. B&M sells kits for the AODE-W, but I just used the parts that came with the kit and modified them all to work with the AOD.
