You know how some years of some vehicles become regarded as classics 20 years later... I bet the unique styling of the '97 - '03 will cause it to be specially remembered in 20 yrs or so. if you think about it they don't look like any other pickup. The '04's are back to the square look. The reg cab flareside is the nicest looking truck ever in my opinion (and I have a styleside!). My dealer has one I'm going to get a few pics of and post. The contours of the rear fenders really go well with the aero-contour of the hood and grill. Just some thoughts...
I don't know if it will be a classic but it is definately the best looking Ford truck. The 2004 truck does nothing for me.
Some people say that the 2004 looks more masculine.
I am secure enough in my masculinity that I do not have to have a vehicle that (looks tough)
In fact i need a little feminity to offset my testoterone.
(just kidding)
I agree with hnm70, the new f150's are way oversized. seems like when you buy one, your overcompensating for something..............well, you know. the 97-03's are the best years and probably always will be.
the only thing I like that's different on the new F-150 is the headlights, and you can buy a set of those projection beams for about 300 bucks. I'll take my small truck and large.........any day of the week LOL!
Anyway, taste is very subjective. I prefer the '03 to the '04, but there are probably just as many people with an opposite opinion.
The '03 just screams power (even when sitting still).
I just built a 65 Mustang Fastback GT. The lines and styling are beautiful. I assume people viewed them as just "utilitarian" back in the 60's. Something to get groceries in.
I have to agree, the 97-'03 series will always be my favorite. To me it marks Ford's new dedication to refinement of a vehicle, no other previous year model had the comfort and styling like a '97 or newer.
My favorite? 99+ Ext cab flareside 4x4 with chrome wheels. Dark torredor red and arizona beige.
