I recently replaced the primary and secondary timing chains and tensioners in my 2012 3.5 Ecoboost F150... Upon reassembly I got a nasty delay in acceleration, overheating, and a P0019 error code. I have since then replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) and the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid. I put 12V into the solenoid and it was bad, it wasn't clicking or actuating, but replacing it did not fix the code. It reappeared after I cleared it almost immediately. I spoke with a mechanic friend who said it was possible that dirty oil or misplaced phaser gears could have blocked the oil passages that lead to the solenoid. I t0re the truck down entirely a second time and re-did the timing job. It did appear that the phaser of the camshaft in question was put on wrong, but even after verifying the locating pin was in the correct hole I found that the code came back. I am stumped. P0019 should be the Exhaust Camshaft "sensor B" on Bank 2 which on Ford trucks should be the driver side.
I ended up having to take it in and get the phasers and tensioners replaced. The oil passages and the dowel pins on the cam phaser gears are the same size (which would have been so easy for ford to avoid by the way bad engineering speaking as an engineer myself) and I misaligned the cam phaser TWICE. Basically you can't trust the cam holding tool to get everything aligned and you may have to do a lot of wiggling to get things to fit. Cost me about 3000 total to have the work done after spending all that time and money doing it myself and failing . oh well.
