people call themselves "christians"
recently a pastor pointed out to me that the word christian means christlike
so if someone says "I am a christian", isn't this basically saying "I am like Christ"
now as I recall Christ himself said something like" if you humble yourself you will be exaulted, and if you exault yourself you'll be humbled"
I submit saying "I am a christian" would qualify as exaulting oneself, so isn't this asking for a serious humbling?
what do you think?
Did you read any of the thread titled "Token Christianity"? If not then I think you should. In that topic, after you've peeled away the layers of nonsense, you will find your answer. Nothing is new on the topic of religion here or elsewhere.
The term Christian is contaminated by those who claim to be.
Any religion is clouded with people who use it as a justification for their actions. Look at the terrorists from 9/11. They claim to be Islamic Fundamentalists. Islam teaches love and peace. Not violence, fear, and killing. There are plenty of extremists who use religion as an excuse for their actions. It makes the rest of us who truly believe in their respected religion look like the terrorists.
