92 F150 Transmission

My '92 F150 has a 3 spd auto tranny with overdrive. The column indicates 1-2-OD (no D). There is no electronic override. Can this be modified or changed so that I can manually put the transmission in 3rd gear?

In 92 ford had 2 autos, the E4od and the Aod. They may have had the c-6? The aod has OD,D,1 and the E40d had Od,2,1 and Overdrive can be stopped by pushing the "off" indicator on the shift lever, thus the tranny won't go into 4th. so It should be in 3rd.

A buddy told me the Dodge dealer told him he should drive with OD off in town (60 km and less). Is there any benefits to that or is it just cause Ram's have a ##### tranny? His tranny went on him at 18,000 km anyhow so it didn't help him any.

The owners manual says that the transmission automatically goes to and from Od. The off-button just stopps the tranny from going into od. Like if your on hills, etc if it shifts alot

the manual also says when pulling a trailer to leave the transmission in od. I dont think so!

I had a service manager at dealer tell me to go ahead & tow my trailor in overdrive. Then stop back on the way home so he could rebuild it! I can not stand the way they shift. Your in 3rd at 23 mpg leaaving no power at all. The new ones do the same thing. Go figure!
