Was it a high grade stainless or something lower that still has a little bit of iron in it? If it was magnetic at all I would likely try fishing it before pulling the engine. Reservoir off and down the front, hell I'd probably even try through the pan drain.
I got it back apart to the reservoir removed it was stuck in the front cover almost had it with a piece of safety wire but it did fall to the pan. I was wondering if you could pull the front cover with out pulling motor or oil pan. It is not mettalic at all... was also wondering getting it to the drain plug and trying to get it out there..///Yes I am south of Atlanta in Sharpsburg work at the airport. was working on it outside cause I didnt want my hunting stuff smelling like diesel full . but I got it put in the garage yesterday so now I wont be sweating as much and the neighbors less likely to hear my colorful language... should have left leak alone that'll teach me
it was stuck between front cover and something a few inches down below the lower half of reservoir I tried to get it with safety wire and it fell and i heard it hit the pan bounced once then stopped.... was thinking i could try and get it to the drain hole be flushing it with used oil i just removed. Then try and possibly get it out drain hole ...most likely wishful thinking...
Looking at pictures of an HPOP, I don't think that the drive gear will stay onto the pump without the washer. It spreads across the hole in the gear and the head of the bolt is too small to be able to reach all the way across. Bolt may be tight, but the gear isn't being retained at all.
Here’s what I am thinking now…son’s first high school football game and a few days to cut grass since he’s at practice every day gave me more time to think….flush washer to drain area somehow and verify… put everything back together hopefully it starts and drive for a trip or two drain oil and see if washer stays at low point in pan….I bought the truck new in 2002 and only have 145k on it other than my minor hpop leak have only had a bad wiper motor that caused some headaches a while back…really gonna be a pain to have to pull the motor and hunting season starts in two weeks that’s when it sees most use..
Of its in the pain it will be fine. Put a washer in a container with oil in it and try to get it to bounce around. It will stick to the bottom. There is a dipstick repair kit on the market where you just knock the inner piece down into to oil pan and it lives there so you don't have to remove the pan.
