2018 Ford F350 SRW Lariat with 49,xxx miles and the 34.4 Gallon fuel tank. When the gauge on my cluster reads half empty, I am only able to pump max 10 gallons of diesel at the pump. When Fuel gauge is shows 3/4 of a tank I can only pump between 3 -4 gallons. I have taken the truck to the dealership where they held it for 1 month and replaced the sender unit. I took home and drove it to test again with the same issues. I took it back to the dealer, where they then kept it this time for 2 months and finally said they couldn't find an issue with it. I am stil having this problem. I proceeded to drive the truck until the light came on and warned me I had 50 miles unitl empty and then filled up, I was oly able to pump 21 gallons. I wanted to see if anybody is having this issue, or any advice on where the problem may be. Oh they also reflashed the computer in the truck back to factory default settings as well saying it was the gauge and that still did not help. Problem persists.
Mine is exactly like that. I'm pulling 12K all the time and getting around ten miles per gallon. When I get the low fuel, 50 mile remaining warning my fill-ups have never exceeded 21 gallons. Well, once they did and there was a lot of fuel on the ground If my tank is ~34, simple math tells me there should be 13 gallons left. At ~10MPG I should have 130 miles left, not 50! I really don't want to run 'er dry just to test this. My inclination is to toss the tank and put in a 60 gallon after market tank, then have somebody smarter than me re-program the 'puter.
The timing of your post is perfect as I was going to make a similar inquiry here. 2018 F350SB SRW (6.7) with supposedly a 34gal tank. The lie-o-meter says that I'm getting 16-16.3mpg. I've filled it twice now when I was at a 1/4 tank and each time only get 18-19gal in. My DTE when topped off shows as almost 480 miles.
My previous truck was a 2011 F250SB that supposedly had a 34gal tank (it didn't look like an aftermarket setup) and I could pump 34gal into it when I let it dip below 1/4 tank. The DTE when full would show 750'ish miles, but would quickly readjust once I hit a half tank.
So I've heard that Ford, in the 2017/2018 model years, put in tanks with 10gal reserves when the DTE reads 0-miles. Supposedly this was something fixed under the factory warranty when it was brought to the dealers attention. In MY2019, the tank was changed to a 4gal reserve from the 0-mile DTE.
Can anyone confirm this? If it's not something Ford would fix on their own (let's face it, very unlikely), I'm inclined to go all in and put one of the S&B 60gal tanks.
@Lawdog734 Very interesting, as when I do the math it makes sense what I am experiencing if there was an internal 10 gal reserve. Any chance you have a ford bulletin, or article to point us towards? That would be quite helpful before making the investment to a larger fuel tank.
@cpobst Could you provide a reference link to the TSB? Would like to be able to go back and show the dealer and mechanice a service bulletin. ALthouhg I see your truck is a 17 not an 18 but if the same issue is happening makes me wonder.

I think I remember another thread on here talking about trucks outside if the stated build dates exhibiting the same issue. I suck searching on here though, especially on my phone.
I remember I took mine in with the gauge on "E" as they requested so they didn't have to transfer much fuel. When I picked it up I had 1/4 tank. All they did was transfer the fuel, they didn't add any.
Sorry to bump an old thread, I just picked up a used 2017 and seem to have this issue. On my first fill up the gauge was reading 1/2 tank and I could only get in 9 gallons of fuel. @cpobst what was the cost, if any, to have the work done?

My extended warranty covered it all but I am thinking the bill was $1600ish?
On a cross country trip pulling our 5th wheel camper, the missus was getting a bit nervous when I pulled into the truck stop and the 0 to empty alert dinged. I pumped in 29 some gallons into our 34 gallon tank.
I like that 5 gallon reserve, although some here are showing more of a difference.
2017 F350 Lariat 6.7L SBCC 4x4. I never bothered to have the dealer look into the problem (or no problem for me) or check out the TSB.
