If it got into the steel belt, I would use it as a spare if you only do short trips. On a long trip with a damaged belt--trouble. Once water gets in there and rusts the belt--trouble quicker.

My buddy the tire lawyer has heard this many times--a flat repair that didn't seal the hole, allowing water and salt into the belt. Rust follows and disaster looms.

You can probably seal it but if there is damage to the belt, all bets are off.

Good luck!

To my eye that doesn't look as though it would have penetrated the tire carcass which is where the steel belts are placed. Even so I'd relegate that particular tire to a spare but as suggested only for a short trip to the new tire store.

Screws, bolts, nails, even staples have flattened my tires over the years. Lots of construction around here and it's cost me plugs and tires.

I had a bolt in a tire once. In mine it went into the tire and made a clacking noise I though was a rock. It came out around 60 mph and made a loud bang when it hit the bottom of the car. Within seconds I had that loud roaring noise of a tire rapidly going flat. I put the spare on and I could see the six sided imprint of the bolt head in the tire.

Looks like you got lucky if no damage was done to the belts.
