Transmission Code 628
Just got finished install the AODE-W transmission in my 1995 F150 5.0L. I pulled it to replace the TC seal and install a new TC. The original TC wasn’t failing but I figured why not.
Everything drove fine and then 10 minutes on the interstate going 70 mph (in the rain), the overdrive OFF light started flashing.
I pulled the codes when I got home and 628 was the error code: excessive clutch converter slippage.
The TC is new and I put roughly 2 QTs of fluid in it before installing it. So this is weird.
Start of this morning and there was a audible whirling noise from the bell housing. The noise seemed to go away once I put the truck in drive. Driving seems sluggish during shifts and I feel like everything vibrates more than usually. At stop lights, there is definitely a vibration that didn’t exist before.
So…did I get a bad part? Or is there something rise I need to check?
(Side note, there were a few drips of transmission fluid under the bell housing this morning).
If that is the case, after tightening the bellhousing bolts, probably busted up the front pump.
Front pump is probably toast, so is the seal, hence you see leaking fluid, TC slippage, and whirring noise.
