I recently went from a 2017 F-350 6.7L to a 2022 F-350 6.7L and while hooking up to tow this past weekend my new truck went into high idle (1K RPM's) about 3 minutes after I started the truck. I then hit the accelerator and it went back to normal idle only to go back to high idle about 3 minutes after that. This never happened on my 2017, so I am wondering if it was trying to regen while in park at an idle or there is something wrong with the throttle body. Any help is appreciated.
Totally normal on the new diesel trucks. Not sure if the gassers do it.. mine will idle up without doing a regen every time I let it idle for more than a few minutes.
I have never noticed mine going into high idle unless I flip the upfitter that I set up for high idle... then again, I don't ever just let me sit and idle either... I try not to even go through drive throughs...
There have been numerous posts, and some threads discussing the exact same concern. Ill edit with links if I find them. As Mwheue said, it appears to be normal and not necessarily related to a regen. Meaning it can happen irregardless of what the DPF% or miles between regens is.
Owners of the 17-19's are noticing this happen after one of the emissions recalls have been performed. I haven't noticed it with my 2019, but like Chad, I don't idle for long. I have thought about letting it idle just to see if it happens.

I found the same thing happens to me (when hooking up) and was wondering as you. I found pressing the brake pedal also reduces the idle for a few moments. Yeah, I was wondering what was happening too.

Gassers don't. They will idle high on a cold engine start for a minute or so. My 7.3 w/10 spd can make quite a bang if shifting into drive while start up idle is still high. Give it a minute.
Perhaps the diesels are trying to keep something cool like the turbo or something?
My 2022 did this for the first time this last weekend while hooking up my RV then again while at the dump station (Texas state parks, no full hookups at their sites). My 2017 never did it. I just figured it was doing a regen and let it go.
