Full charge F150 Lightning Lariat Standard Range? 262 Miles
Again, just want some of the guys or gals that have been looking to get real world feedback. The one thing I want to keep hammering is that in my experience you cannot drive the F150 Lightning like any ICE vehicle. Constant highway speed doesnt give good efficiency, the best way I can explain it is you have to drive the contours, curves and elevation of the road. Varying your speed say from 55-62 to the top of the slight hill then coasting down the other side for full regen brake action. I have not used cruise control that much, It just really takes away efficiency. Here are screenshots and a pic inside the cab. Note the in cab pic says 99%, but Fordpass says 100%. I have no idea why it says different.
I'm glad to hear you're seeing as-advertised range estimates. You also answered a question I had about how the truck displays range. Tesla displays EPA miles remaining regardless of operating conditions, so I always switched the display to percentage. In the dead of a Minnesota winter, the car would show 240 miles on a full charge even though I might barely see half of that. My EV6 is a much more usable calculation based on operating conditions, and your post suggests the Lightning does similar. Very good to know!
One of the big EV YouTube channels did a range test and found the Standard-Range Lightning to get about 214 miles at 70 MPH. Higher speeds really kill range with an EV; it's often faster to travel slower on road trips to stretch out charging stops.
Yeah, glad to know some of the info is helping. The video, I am just going to say now if they got 214 miles going 70 mph, that is very generous. As you stated it is extremely inefficient to travel at a constant velocity from what I can tell. The other thing about Fordpass is that it misses some of the trips sometimes. The data is captured but lumped into another shorter trip sometimes. For instance today we went about 140 miles and for the first leg Fordpass says I got 2.9 miles per kWh with 0.0 brake regen miles. The second leg of the trip Fordpass says 2.2 miles per kWh but 20.9 miles of brake regen. Its likely the regen miles were split at 10 miles each leg, but just saying it doesnt always capture the data perfectly. Here is the log.
The miscalculations or misplaced data log may be something Ford fixes via an over the air software update in the future. No doubt there are still some bugs to work out, just like when the Mustang Mach-E became available to the public.
