EEC-IV manual question

EEC-IV manual question
I have a 89 F250 and an 87 Topaz, both with EEC-IV of course. My question is, can one "Engine/emissions diagnostic manual" work for both of them? Would the 89 manual be sufficient for the 87 sedan? I would rather not purchase both.
The manual is for the year only, does not cover any specific model, so they have one for 1987, 1988, etc. They are really big thick folders which cover EEC-IV and diesel engines. The manual is also known as the H manual.

Yes, the software varies between car models for number of cylinders, mass-air?, throttlebody or port injection, manual or auto tranny, etc. The basic function is the same along with the codes.
