Electric engine fan vs stocker

Sorry, I looked all over before starting a new thread. Ive been in several ford sites and read debates about electric vs belt fan. More often than not, people said the electric fans cant do as well as the stock under high load or very hot weather. Most said they heard that from someone else but had no proof. Well I want to call BS but then I always keep an open mind. I see twin electric setups that pull OVER 5,000 cfm. I dont think the stocker does. Also, Im sure it opens up over 15 HP to take the fan and clutch off. An, one could put a pusher AND puller electric setup and blow the block through the firewall. Am I incorrect about this? Whats the cfm of the stock fan? Also, at low speeds and idle, the electric would be blowing a heck of a lot more than the stock which depends on engine speed, correct?? I want to put elec on my 2001 7.3

So put an electric fan on it. I've got 2, plus the factory engine driven fan. Only because I'd rather the engine not melt into a puddle on the road. Are you needing that 15hp so bad to risk the motor itself? There are a hell of a lot easier and safer ways to get a hell of a lot more than 15hp. Just sayin. While we're talking electric fans I would like to point out those cfm # quoted for those electrics are very generous. They aren't out right lies, well some of the no name China units probably are, but they're like all the engine hp ratings pre 72. No regulation and no standardization. If they have to juice the hell out of it and melt it to the ground to get those #'s so be it, no rule saying they can't. All those things on your truck that block the flow of the fans will never let it get anywhere close to those quoted #'s. You know those pesky things like radiators and condensers and engines.

There is no free lunch. Those electric fans have to be powered and now it's the alternator's responsibility to keep up with demand. I don't believe the stock setup is adequate enough to keep up with it all if you are pulling a heavy load up a mountain pass on a hot day. The Motorcraft fan clutch is classified as "severe duty" and they are not kidding. It kicks in with a roar and puts enough drag on the belt to create factory recalls and other aftermarket repairs over glazed pulleys that cannot keep up with demand. If you want to go with electric, nothing wrong with that, just make sure your charging system will be able to keep up with all of the new demands, as well.

I see it this way - Ford would not have used a fan that drew 15 hp unless they needed to... and under some conditions, a giant, power-sucking fan is needed.
