Problem is other cars are built as well or better than our Ford trucks. If we can't hear the horn 6 feet away from our head, what are the chances the guy we're honking at hears it 100 feet away?
I don’t have any problem hearing other people honking in traffic. And yes, the windows are up and the radio and A/C are on.
Train horn installed today. I had a credit at a local custom shop so they installed it for me. They wired it up so my regular horn blows them but only if upfitter switch 6 is on. With it off it's a normal horn. Pretty bada$$ I must say 👍🏻

That's the route I went as well. My 3 year old loves it. 😅
Some folks mentioned replacing horns with those fancy multi-tone ones, like the BossHorn. I've heard those before – they seem less jarring than the classic train whistle.
On the other hand, maybe there's a way to improve safety without sacrificing tradition? Anyone have ideas for alternative warning signals that are effective but a little less, well, earsplitting?
I have a Giant Model 820 low tone. I feel like it’s not as jarring as some of the train horns out there. It has been great when I’m towing the fifth wheel and need to make sure it’s heard when someone starts to come into my lane. You can also adjust the pressure in the air tank if you don’t want it to be super loud. I drop the pressure when I roll into the neighborhood so when all the kids pump their arms in the air, I toot the horn and don’t blow anyone away.

Totally off comment. I don't "roll coal", nor am I a kid, however, I love my air horn. It has come in quite handy many times and others love it too. I'll leave it at that too.
love the train horn concept....also...it would be great if you can also use the air tank for on board air.
Mine is. I have a QD at the license plate and I can easily get to all 4 truck tires or all 4 camper tires with a 25’ air hose. There are also a couple extra unused ports on the tank so if I wanted to add bags or anything else I still have those options easily available to me.
