Wheel Backspacing .....Again..

I need the correct backspacing to get 20" wheels with 295/70-20 tires right to the edge of the fender well with the factory wheel moldings. I thought I had it all figured out that I need +12-+15 wheels to accomplish this. but when I went to my tire shop they said they'll stick out at least an inch.

Anyone know for sure ? I don't mind a little tire bulge outside but I don't want tread outside the well.

What width wheel?

I'm in the exact same boat. Looking at 20x9.5

If those are actually +12 offset, my brain is fried. I thought the higher offset number moved everything further inward. Those stick out much farther than I would expect with a positive offset.

Could be the tire also. Those are 37x12.50 Toyo.

Factory offset is like +44, so everything subtracted from that moves the wheel/tire out. I’ve seen some +20 offset that are pretty much tucked still. What’s the options for offset on the wheels you want?

You are correct but it depends on the width of the wheel. A +12 offset on a 10” wheel will stick out of the fender line more than a +12 offset on an 8” wheel. You have to factor that the 10” wheel is already going to be out an inch farther because it is 5” to center if the wheel not 4”. Once you hit center, then the offset comes into play.

I'm looking at 9" since the selection is much better.

Factory wheels are 8" then ? so that would move it out 1/2" with a 9" wheel , and then +44 on a stock wheel to +12 would move it out another 32mm which is about 1 1/4" so a total of of 1 3/4" more to the outside than a stock wheel ?

If those in the picture are 9 1/2" wheels and only stick out a little , with my factory flares I'd think +12 would be perfect.

And my tires are almost an inch narrower.

Black Rhino Sentinel

17x8.5 -18 offset, 4.04 backspacing
17x8.5 0 offset, 4.75 backspacing

20x9.5 -18 offset, 4.54 backspacing
20x9.5 +12 offset, 5.75 backspacing

I was shooting for 18" wheels for more sidewall but the wheel I want is only available in 17 or 20. I don't want 17's so 20 it is. I'm thinking the 20x9.5 +12 is the ticket. I loathe the brodozer look of ultra wide wheels sticking 6" beyond the fenders. I don't necessarily want mine tucked inside the fenders, but not sticking out much if at all. I'm also planning to add the OEM Tremor flares.

The 20x9.5 +12 is the ticket. I’m not sure what the 295 tires measure out to be, but you’ll want nothing smaller than a 35” tire IMO, if you want to keep your wheel wells looking full. No trimming needed with 35’s either.
