Costco had beef cheek for $1.87. Costco is the only place I see it for sale. I can't find it in other stores. Maybe this is what taquerias sell as cabeza. For me, it made a regular San Francisco Chinatown meal. Carrot, celery, onion, garlic, and potato. A few hours later. It was melting in my mouth. This piece of beef has a great flavor and texture. I wish that I could stock up on something like that when the price is low.
Never heard of beef cheek meat.
Spent all day yesterday, and half the day today in the Fresno County house as a prospective juror. Finally got dismissed. One on hand I am glad because the trial is expected to last ten business days, and that would mean being there 8 hours a day for two weeks. Which means no caregiver here for two weeks. Not sure my leg would like that. Also, it takes 50 minutes to get there, or come home. Which in the morning is not bad but being let out at 4:30pm puts me in 100+ degree heat, and yesterday when I finally made it home, I could tell the back of my neck was sunburned, and both my legs were so sore, I could barely walk. I spent the remaining time in my recliner drinking as many glasses of chocolate milk and orange juice as I could. Also, it didn't help that I got lost at the lunch break looking for the closest Mc Donalds. The batteries in the scooter were so low that it was noticeably slower, and my LED readout was bouncing back and forth between red and orange. Today, I was dismissed before 11:30 am, and went straight home, so no issues with the batteries.

If you get a chance, I would suggest trying it. Cook it just like any other tough cut of meat. Slow cook it. I'm cooking some right now. 1 pound of fresh tomato, cut up into chunks. With the tomatoes I'm using, 1 pound is 4 tomatoes. Start cooking the tomatoes and they will liquify. Cut the beef into bite size chunks. I like big chunks, because I'm a fat boy who likes huge bites of meat. Add the beef to the pot, and stir the pieces of meat around with the tomatoes. Add 1 onion and 1 head of garlic. Not 1 clove of garlic. Use the whole head of garlic. Add salt and pepper. Stir and mix it all up. The pot should now be meat and tomato juice. As it comes to a boil, cover it, and reduce the heat to medium low. Let it simmer for a few hours, until the meat is tender and the liquid is reduced. About 15 minutes of work. Hours of waiting, stirring occasionally, and waiting. When I was a kid, they used to call it ragù. And the most popular ingredient was rabbit.
I guess every county does jury duty in a different way. In San Francisco, you can fill out a form to excuse yourself. You just have to check off the box that says you're not a citizen, you're a felon, you don't speak English, you're disabled, etc.
I could have tried to get out of jury duty, but so far have not had to do so. Since I moved up here in 2003, I have been summoned four times. First time, I spent three hours in the assembly room, and was sent home obligation completed. Second time, I didn't even have to show up. The website said I was on call, and to check back in again that night. When I did, they stated my service was done. The third time I was actually assigned to a trial but the defending attorney dismissed me, which is also what happened yesterday. I don't qualify for any hardships, and I don't plan on lying to the court to try to get excused. I'll just wait to be excused. They want a person who will be fair and unbiased. When the defending attorney asked us if anyone had an issue with his client pleading the fifth, I raised my hand and stated "Anyone pleading the fifth has something to hide." I guess he figured I would not be fair and impartial.
