I have a 1989 F-150 Custom with the 5.0 engine. Found this in the engine bay:
The previous owner seems to have jumped this connector that's coming off the wire harness by the distributor. What wire is this, where does it properly connect to? I would like to restore this to proper working condition.

Thanks,

Id say it may be the SPOUT connector which useually has a plastic jumper that inserts into it. the connector broke or was lost, my thinking. and the wire is cconnecting it. this allows the truck to control igniition timing proper;y once et with a light and that wire removed
Thank you so much for the quick response Aurora, that does indeed seem to be what it is.
I did some googling because I was curious what a shorted-by-default wire might be good for. It appears that this is actually in-line between distributor and PCM, allowing you ti open the circuit between PCM and distributor to stop the PCM interfering with timing. Learned something!
