Spark plug help

So I’ve recently had an engine built for my 86 f150 efi 5.0. Nothing crazy but the engine is a roller 306 with gt40p heads. My question is do I gap the plugs based on what the truck says or what the engine is from?

Is it that much difference? Basically, the wider the gap, the hotter the spark. But as the plug wears the gap will get even wider till the sparkplug starts to miss-fire. A smaller gap will have less of a spark, but as the plug wears it will have a much longer life before it starts to miss-fire. Much like timing this engine, you have a custom built engine so you will have to experiment with what works the best for your goals. The factory wanted a hot spark, but they had to balance longevity also.

If you get a high dollar plug, like one of those iridium plugs, that plug lasts longer than a regular plug so you could run a wider gap with it and still get some longevity out of it too.
