gear ratio

i have an 87 ranger 2.9L 4x4, xlt and every time it is in 1st 2nd or revese it makes a klunk nosie a couple of times, i think its my side gear on the rear axle and i was wondering if any one knew where i could possible find a gear ratio chart or something like that for me to find

Welcome to FTE bob101. You may be on the right track with the problem being in the diff. Before you get too far along though, lube the slip yoke on the front of the driveshaft. It's just a remote possibility that this could actually be the source of the klunk.

i forgot to mention that it only klunks when im going straight and if i have the clutch in it doesn't seem to do it. it usually klunks a couple of times when im starting off and when i first put it into second it klunks a couple of times, when its in reverse it klunks just another couple of times, so i don't know if maybe it has something to do with my tranny as well, but the noise seems to be coming from the back.
