If you have a reputable local shop thats rebuilds them, have yours rebuilt. Big box over-the-counter starters don't have the best track record as they are often China new or remans, plus you'll be inclined to give up what may be an original as a $20 (approx) core which I advise against.
I haven't owned a dent in many years, and the ones I did own had FE engines, not 335s. All that said, I would look into converting to a PMGR type starter. I don't know if there's one available that can be made to fit a 335 block, sorry, but if there is it would be a worthwhile upgrade. Maybe that's what Beartracks is talking about in the last post.
I swapped the OEM in my 87 Bronco for a later Bronco PMGR from DB Electric some years ago. It cranks much faster still.
Most re-manufactured starters aren't re-manufactured at all. They might have bushings and brushes, and that's it. (1,2,+3 in the attached picture)
If you can buy good quality brushes and bushes, an armature (5 in the attached) and a bendix-drive (4 in the attached), it's easy enough to either rebuild yourself, or have a reputable local shop rebuild it as suggested above.
The field coil and other parts will probably be ok, but can be checked.
