I have a project with a 9 3/8 rear end. As far as I know it didn't have any problems but has sat for 10 years. I've never done any diff work before but plan on getting into it tomorrow. Should I replace the seals/bearings, look for a 9" third member, or look for a complete rear end? Initially I was thinking of replacing but as time goes and budgets run tighter I'm not sure which would be the best option.
I know it's not worth keeping if it needs a serious rebuild due to finding parts, but if the teeth look fine is it worth it to just re seal everything for now? I'm not sure of the compatibility across years so I'll take any suggestions or help you can give.
Is it leaking from any of the seals? Seals and bearings all have numbers stamped in them. Shouldn't be that hard to find. Have you translated the rear tag to find out it's 9 3/8? Only 10 years setting, I would be more worried about brakes. JMO

There is no tag, thanks whoever swapped this in! I'm definitely doing brakes and wheel bearings. I see what I assume is a leak around the 3rd member gasket but nowhere else. It hasn't left any oil spots or anything. So maybe it's a slow leak.
I'm judging it to be a 9 3/8 just by the 3rd member design. Pictures below.
