it seems the bonehead that replaced the ball joints on my 2008 F250 neglected to install the zerks , does anyone know what size they are?

What brand ball joints? I've seen 6mm, 7,, 1/4" 3/16th" and self tapping zerks (Grease fittings)

You can buy self-tapping zerks from McMaster-Carr.
