Removed my muffler and added a delete pipe. Wow, is it wayyy louder than I imagined it would be. louder than my 77’ 302 straight pipe for sure….more surprising was the amount of droning vibration im getting through the steering wheel and floor board at various RPMs. Anyone else feel a good amount of drone vibrations through the wheel and floor with their straight pipe setup?
I have not run a setup like that, but several things to check would be to ensure that the exhaust system is not making contact with frame or body components. Another thing I learned from a different vehicle is that if the tail pipe is too far under the vehicle, or not pointed downward, it can reverberate under the body, causing quite a drone.
Shouldn't really be that loud, the 6.4 PSD has two turbo chargers that the exhaust goes through before getting out the tailpipe, the turbo's actually do quite a bit of noise muffling. The stock ford muffler is tiny and straight through, it can't do much.
Here is is next to a 33 inch tire (its actually a very small muffler)
Are you in the right section meaning the truck you have is an 08-10 Ford diesel?

I really appreciate all the responses, this site has aways been the most informative. It had the compounds removed before I purchased it for a single s467. They also went to a 5” after the downpipe with an mbrp muffler.. I figured i’d remove that and it might sound better. But im thinking the mbrp did alot for droning… too late for me now. I hacked that puppy off, ive honestly never heard a diesel this loud. But ive had people follow me and say they didnt think it was that loud. So maybe its just what its like in the cab. The axel dump probably plays into that. One day in the future i imagine i might change it up. But for now, its just going to be loud.
Yes, that would surely make a difference if you don't have enough turbos! Then a 5 inch system, with axle dump, yes, you are definitely looking for noise with that setup. Again, with 5 inch, it can be very difficult to keep it from rubbing. Might be worth a double check.
Yeah i agree. I might look into possibly tightening up any loose hangers… not sure how ill go about that… maybe adding a strap to the back hanger, since its one of the black poly rubber things that can get a little loose after a time. Anything to help the intermittent drone vibrations at certain rpms…. Thanks all..
